April 24, 2009 — The Castle Pines North City Council last night received an annexation petition from the owners of The Canyons property and determined that it adequately complied with statutory requirements for an annexation process to proceed.

Determining that the petition complies with applicable statutory requirements is the first of several steps needed to complete annexation. Following last night's determination, the city council will set two hearings on the proposed annexation that will determine whether the property is eligible for annexation and then act on the annexation.

"Because we understand the community interest in receiving this application and our desire to be as open as possible, the city wants to make sure our residents are aware of the filing," says Mayor Maureen Shul. "We have always known that Castle Pines North one day would day have The Canyons as our neighbor to the east, and we're pleased that The Canyons would consider becoming part of our city."

Representatives from The Canyons will hold a series of public forums to inform residents about their community vision and get feedback from Castle Pines North citizens. The first open house is scheduled for 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 6 at The Ridge dining room, located at 1414 Castle Pines Parkway. Additional public meetings will be scheduled soon.
