Reminders on driving rules around Buffalo Ridge Elementary

March 2, 2009

Traffic safety is an important concern in our community – especially in school zones. Castle Pines North and Douglas County Sheriff staff recently responded to concerns of parents living near Buffalo Ridge Elementary School, where people have been observed driving unsafely when picking up children.

Many cars are being parked on both sides of the street, along the south side of the school. People are blocking driveways, parking in pedestrian crosswalks, performing illegal u-turns, and dangerously backing up vehicles where children walk.

The City of Castle Pines North would like to remind parents to respect the following rules when picking up children from school:
  • Do not block driveways.
  • Do not park in designated crosswalks.
  • Do not perform u-turns in the middle of intersections.
  • Be aware of children crossing the street or walking behind your car.
The city also has asked the Sheriff to randomly perform spot checks to help educate parents and discuss traffic violations and proper traffic movements.
