Douglas County Sheriff to target unattended, idling vehicles
Dec. 9, 2009
Citizens should be advised that Douglas County deputies and detectives will be out in force Dec. 14-18 looking for "puffers" – people who leave their vehicles running unattended.
Under Colorado law, it is illegal for a person to leave a vehicle on and unattended.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, deputies in marked patrol cars and plainclothes detectives in unmarked cars will be joining other law enforcement agencies throughout the state in enforcing this law.
They also join members of the "Colorado Auto Theft Investigators" group in trying to educate people that leaving their vehicles on and unattended is a good way to get their cars stolen.
The Sheriff's Office advises that if you have to warm up your vehicle in the morning, make sure to stay with it.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office provides public safety services for the City of Castle Pines North.
