CASTLE PINES NORTH, Colo., Dec. 4, 2008 — Castle Pines North City Council members last night approved the appointment of resident Janie Berry as the new City Clerk.

At the Council meeting, Berry was sworn in by the Interim City Clerk, Doug Gilbert, who also serves as the city's Treasurer. Berry replaces former City Clerk Carl Kollmar, who resigned in October to take a position with CH2M HILL OMI, serving as Deputy City Clerk. Berry's formal swearing-in ceremony at the Douglas County Clerk's Office will be scheduled at a later date.

The City Clerk is responsible for maintaining municipal records, such as council meeting agendas, minutes, ordinances, resolutions and other vital city documents.

"Giving back and being involved with the community is crucial to our community's success. As our new city grows and evolves, I'm excited to be a part of it and to serve the citizens of Castle Pines North," said Berry.

She and her family have lived in the Daniel’s Gate area of Castle Pines North for five years. She currently works as a project coordinator for Elavon, a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp that provides payment processing services. Earlier in her career, Berry was a stringer for National Public Radio, covering everything from elections to weather.

"It was during this time that I found a passion for city government, as I covered council meetings and commissioner meetings regularly," she said.

Berry will be available to meet citizens at the next City Council meeting, which will be Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. at the CPN Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive.
